Day Three - June 20th, 2006 - Rennes and Bruz

Our students were living with host families in Bruz, which is a small town about 10 km south of Rennes. Rennes is a fairly large city of about 300,00 people. We were able to take the train to Bruz, a quick 15 minute trip in the morning. On Tuesday, we went to St. Joseph a Bruz school. All of our host brothers and sisters were in Madame Lorent's and Monsieur Blondeau's classes. The kids spent the day going to classes with their host brothers and sisters. The Alaskan students shared information about Alaska and the United States with the French students.

The teachers were able to compare school notes with their French counterparts. At St. Joseph a Bruz, classrooms are assigned to different teachers for different periods and thus are pretty bare. The teacher brings the materials for class with them each day.

There was a two hour break mid-day. The adults had a wonderful lunch in the teacher's lunchroom. Everything was very relaxing and the food was cooked at the school. There were many wonderful foods to choose from. The students had lunch and a lengthy recess before classes resumed.

I was able to use the computer in the teacher's lounge and posted an entry on my blog. It was rather challenging as the keyboards are different in France. The "a" and the "q" are reversed, the "m" and the ";" are reversed, as well as the "z" and the "w". It definitely slowed me down. :-)

After school, our students went home with their host brothers and sisters. We returned to our hotel in Rennes and explored a bit of the city.
