Trip Planning

Day One - June 18th, 2006
Leaving Anchorage & Arriving in Paris 6/19

It was finally time for our trip to France! We had been preparing all year and the day had finally arrived. Passports in hand, we checked in for our Condor flight at the International Terminal. Condor is a charter airline connected with Lufthansa. It is a 9 1/2 hour flight over the pole from Anchorage to Frankfurt International Airport in Germany.

Once on board, we were able to move around in our seats. The plane was not entirely full. Condor flights have TV monitors that allow you to watch the takeoff and landings. The monitors also displayed updates throughout the flights with our airspeed, altitude, Anchorage time, Frankfurt time, miles/km to go, and time remaining in our flight. We also were able to see our location on maps as we made our way over the pole and down the coast of Greenland. It was over 60 degrees below zero outside! During our flight we had three meals and three movies. The adults took naps. Most of the students did not. We saw Mrs. Beck and her family on the plane too.

When we arrived in Frankfurt, we went through passport security and then made our way to our Lufthansa flight to Paris. It was a short flight, just over an hour into Charles de Gaulle airport. We made a quick restroom break and discovered that bathrooms are different in Europe....just a bit. Then it was off to the baggage claim area. After waiting and waiting for our luggage, we finally discovered it in the next carousel over.
